Welcome to SMSU Homecoming!

We’re thrilled to welcome Mustangs past and present back to campus for SMSU Homecoming—a time to celebrate our shared pride, reconnect with friends, and make new memories. Whether you're an alum, student, faculty member, or community supporter, this page is your go-to resource for all things Homecoming. We’ve got answers to your most common questions so you can enjoy the festivities stress-free.

Where can I park?

Thanks to the SMSU Alumni Association and Foundation, all campus parking will be free on Homecoming Day! Arrive between 11:00 and 12:00 PM to find a prime spot — especially in the Green Lot, where you can tailgate right along the parade route. There will also be parking in the grassy lot behind Borch's's’s and the A and B lots on the east side of campus. The A & B lots will be closing at 12:00 to allow the parade to pass. Park once and enjoy a full day of Mustang festivities. See the map for details.

What is the parade route?

The parade begins near the Track & Field Complex on State Street, heads south to Wefald Drive, turns west on Birch Street, and finishes by heading north on Mustang Trail to the Schwan Regional Event Center. These streets will remain open until 11:30 to allow everyone to park and drop off family members and chairs along the route.

When does the parade start?

The parade will begin promptly at 12:00 PM.

How do I watch the parade on campus?

Campus offers a welcoming and scenic viewing experience! Most of the route is lined with grassy boulevards and green spaces — perfect for blankets or lawn chairs. Find your spot and enjoy the parade in a relaxed setting.

Will there be food and drinks available?

Yes! The Hitching Post will be serving food and beverages at the corner of Mustang Trail and Birch, with a portion of proceeds supporting the SMSU Alumni Association. Additional food options will be available throughout the day. Interested in participating? Contact SMSU Alumni!

When does the Gameday Roundup Tailgate start?

The tailgate kicks off right after the parade, around 1:00 PM. Arrive early to snag a Green Lot spot and enjoy both the parade and tailgate from one location!

What happens during the Gameday Roundup?

Expect live music, great food, bounce houses for kids, and opportunities to explore local vendors and businesses. It’s a festive, family-friendly celebration of Mustang Pride!

I have a float in the parade, when and where should I check in?

Parade line-up will begin promptly at 11:00 a.m. on Homecoming day. SMSU staff will be on hand to greet and assist you at the north end of the B Lot.

You may enter the line-up area from either:

Highway 23, near the Track & Field Complex, or
Mustang Trail, driving past the football stadium.

Please note: The road directly in front of the football stadium will be closed to traffic. To access the B Lot, use the gravel road that loops around the field.
