Alumni Heritage Gallery

The Alumni Heritage Gallery opened in the upper level of the Student Center in October 2007.  The Gallery preserves and displays the tradition and excellence that have been SMSU’s hallmarks over the years.

The Gallery is divided into three main areas: Southwest Minnesota State College – SMSC (1963-1975); Southwest State University – SSU (1975-2003); and Southwest Minnesota State University – SMSU (2003-Present).  Pictures, clothing, furniture, books and other memorabilia cover the space from floor to ceiling.  The common thread tying all the gallery items together is the accomplishments and support of the University’s alumni.

The items are not a conclusive representation of the variety of academic and extracurricular activities from over the past 40 years.  If you have items you would like to add to the gallery or you require more information, please contact the SMSU Foundation, (507) 537-6266.

“At heart, this university reflects the rich history of this region – its diversity, its discipline, its commitment to community, and its success…In its brief history, Southwest has fulfilled much of the dream of its founders, (leaders, faculty, staff, students, and alumni) – it is an American success story.”

Former SMSU President, Dr. David Danahar
